시각을 통해 보고 기억하는 풍경 혹은 여행 사진 이미지를 추출하여 재편집한 것으로 풍경을 구조화하여 묵직하고 육중한 덩어리로 형상화한 하지훈의 풍경은 실제의 재현이 아니다.

작가의 무의식과 내면세계에서 자연이라는 대상을 모티프로 개인의 경험(시각, 후각, 청각 등)을 통해 숙성되어 추상화된 풍경을 선, 면, 색으로 이루어진 하나의 덩어리로 만들어 낸다. 거친 붓 자국과 다채로운 색으로 구성된 이미지들은 각기 다른 형태를 가지고 각각의 이야기를 관람객과 공유하고 있다. 장소 등에 대한 구체적 묘사에서 벗어난 하지훈만의 표현기법은 해군이었던 부친을 따라 이사가 잦았던 유년 시절의 경험과 성인이 되어 독일에 정착한 이후 느낀 이방인의 감정에서 비롯된 것으로 장소에 대한 기억을 모아 마음에서 느껴지는 감정을 그대로 작품으로 옮긴 것이다. 긴 시간 숙련되고 익숙해진 붓의 패턴화된 사용을 경계하여 손과 나이프로 물감을 뭉개 칠하는 표현 방법에 직감적으로 느낀 풍경을 색채로 표현하고 마치 바둑판에 바둑을 놓듯 하지훈만의 색채 공식을 통해 구조적으로 배치하면서 구상과 추상의 경계를 넘어서는 시도를 계속하고 있다.

최근 작가는 풍경의 재구성에서 나아가 과거 풍경에서 받았던 인상이나 당시의 분위기를 구조적으로 풀거나(<Isle(Mediterranean Structure) 시리즈>) 기법적인 변화를 통한 실험(<Wildflower> 시리즈)을 통해 자연이라는 모티브로 대상의 단편적인 사실이 아닌, 대상의 이면이나 기억과의 연관성을 구체화하고 있다.

영남대 서양화가를 졸업하고 독일 뮌스터 쿤스트 아카데미에서 수학한 하지훈은 게르하르트 리히터의 제자인 미하엘 반호펜에게 사사하였다. 2009년 독일에서의 개인전을 시작으로 국내외에서 다수의 개인전과 단체전에 참여하였으며 마인쯔 아이젠투엄 미술상, 금호 영 아티스트. 대구미술관 Y 아티스트 등에 선정되었으며 국립현대미술관 미술은행, 대구미술관, 금호미술등에 작품이 소장되어 있다.

Ha Ji-hoon's landscapes, that are structured by extracting and re-editing the landscapes seen and remembered through sight or travel images and that are shaped into a heavy and bulky mass, are not reproductions of reality. Using the subject of nature as a motif in his unconscious and inner world, he creates an abstract landscape matured through personal experience (vision, smell, hearing and such) as a single mass made up of lines, planes, and colors. The images, composed of rough brushstrokes and rich colors, take different forms and share their own stories with the audience. Ha’s own expressive technique that deviates from specific descriptions of place stems from his childhood experiences of moving frequently with his father, who was in the navy, and the feelings of an outsider he felt after settling in Germany as an adult that he collected his memories of places and transferred the emotions he felt in his heart into the works. With an expressive method of applying paint in chunks with hands and a knife, avoiding the patterned use of a brush that has become habitual over a long period of time, he continues to attempt to go beyond the boundaries between figuration and abstraction by expressing the scenery felt intuitively with color and arranging it structurally through his unique color formula, as if playing Baduk on a checkerboard.

Recently, the artist, moving on from reconstructing the landscape, structurally unravels the impressions received from past landscapes or the atmosphere of the time (<Isle(Mediterranean Structure) series>), and with the motif of nature, he embodies the connection with the other side of the object or memory, rather than the fragmentary facts of the object through experiments with technical changes (<Wildflower> series).

Ha graduated from the Department of Western Painting at Yeungnam University and studied at the Kunstakademie Münster, Germany, where he studied under Michael Vanhofen, a student of Gerhard Richter. Starting with a solo exhibition in Germany in 2009, he participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions at home and abroad, and was selected for the Mainz Eisentum Art Award, Kumho Young Artist, and Daegu Art Museum Y Artist. His works are housed in places including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art’s Art Bank, Daegu Museum of Art, and Kumho Museum of Art.
