Using charcoal and oil paint, Lim Ji-min has been capturing feelings of regret and anxiety about vanishing beings and fading memories through natural objects like human hands, leaves, flowers, and fruits. Before starting work,
she collects, accumulates, and classifies things that are directly or indirectly related to her personal experiences, images that catch the eye spontaneously, and images derived from them.
She chose to give up 'concreteness' by selecting specific parts of the image and fixing fragments of the canvas in the process of transferring these inner 'memories' onto a small canvas. By focusing on the hand, the objects placed on it, and specific movements, she creates a landscape without any context or perspective.
We can see the artist’s own lyrical and unique artistic language about memory through a theatrical canvas that seems to have been paused and cropped from a memorable scene.
She majored in contemporary art at Konkuk University and its Graduate School, and worked as an artist in residence at the OCI Museum of Art Creation Studio, Cheongju Art Creation Studio and the Jangheung Atelier in Ghana. She was selected as a ‘New Hero’ by Monthly Public Art and won the grand prize at the Gallery Art Festival’s New Artist Special Exhibition.
