김정선 작가는 오래된 사진 이미지를 자신만의 조형 언어로 재해석해 추억을 자아내는 이미지를 선보여 왔다.

쉽게 지나칠 수 있는 일상의 이미지를 화면으로 옮겨 누구나 가진 추억 속 장면을 통해 아련한 과거와 생생한 현실의 감정이 교차하는 찰나의 순간을 시각적으로 표현한다. 화면 가득한 민들레꽃과 튤립, 데이지, 레몬 등은 사실적인 형태를 유지하면서도 배경과 대상을 흐릿하게 중첩해 윤곽을 의도적으로 흐리게 하여 시간과 공간의 인식을 모호하게 만들고 공간감과 깊이감을 극대화했다.

짧게 피었다가 지는 꽃의 찰나의 아름다움을 통해 작가가 바라보고 있는 우리 삶의 순간성을 효과적으로 보여준다. 김정선의 작업은 추억과 현재의 감정을 연결하는 시간의 연속성을 기록함으로써 노스탤지어에 그치지 않고 기억을 자극하여 새로운 화면으로 다가오는 기회를 제공한다.

서울대학교와 동대학원에서 서양화를 전공하고 미국 샌프란시스코 Art Institute에서 수학한 김정선은 1995년 개인전(인사갤러리)을 시작으로 관훈갤러리, 이화익 갤러리, 전북도립미술관, 사비나미술관 등 국내외 전시에 다수 참여했으며 2008년 송은 미술대전 장려상을 수상했다.

Kim Jung-sun has been painting pictures that evoke memories by reinterpreting old photographs in her own formative language. She visually captures the transient moments where vague past and vivid emotions of reality intersect by projecting overlooked everyday images which are scenes from collective memories onto the canvas. The dandelion flowers, tulips, daisies, and lemons that fill the canvas retain realistic shapes, but the outlines are intentionally softened by blurring the background and the objects, creating an ambiguous perception of time and space and enhancing the sense of space and depth. The artist effectively shows the momentary nature of our lives as she sees it through the transient beauty of flowers that blossom briefly before fading away. By recording the continuity of time that connects remembrances and current emotions, Her work does not stop at nostalgia but stimulates memories and provides an opportunity to create a new image.

Kim, who majored in Western painting at Seoul National University and its graduate school and studied at the San Francisco Art Institute in the U.S., began her career with a solo exhibition (Insa Gallery) in 1995 and participated in numerous domestic and international exhibitions such as Kwanhoon Gallery, Lee Hwa-ik Gallery, Jeonbuk Museum of Art, and Sabina Art Museum in 2008, and won the Encouragement Award at Songeun Art Award.
