구지윤은 도시라는 장소 안에서 욕망과 기억이 만들어내는 심리적 풍경을 색채와 선 등 조형요소들이 뒤엉킨 추상회화로 표현하는 작가이다.

대상의 구체적인 묘사 없이 시간을 두고 물감을 겹쳐 그리는 방식을 통해 작업의 레이어가 보이거나 덮이기도 하고 뒤엉킨 형태를 보이기도 하면서 불규칙한 도시의 시간을 끄집어낸다.

물감을 쌓고 덮고 닦아내는 과정의 반복을 통해 형성되는 화면에는 도시에 대한 단상들의 감각의 색이 덧입혀지고, 끊임없이 반복되는 파괴와 생성을 가진 도시를 닮은 색감이 표현된다. 두터운 물감의 질감과 색채의 면, 선이 형성하는 운동감 속에서 평면을 탈피하는 공간형성화의 모습은 형상으로 포착할 수 없는 시간의 축적을 구지윤만의 화법으로 추상회화의 형태로 재구성되어 도시 공간에서 느끼고 경험하는 감각의 기억을 시각화한다.

구지윤은 한국예술종합학교 미술원과 미국의 시카고 아트 인스티튜트에서 수학하고 뉴욕대학교 스튜디오 아트를 석사 졸업했다. 2016년 프로젝트 스페이스 사루비아 다방에서의 첫 개인전 <무거운 농담>을 시작으로 아라리오 뮤지엄 인 스페이스, 63 아트 미술관, 아라리오 갤러리 등에서 다수의 개인전과 그룹전에 참여했으며, 2014년 제3회 에트로 미술대상 금상을 수상했다.

Jiyoon Koo presents the psychological landscape shaped by desire and memory in a city through abstract paintings intertwined with formative elements such as colors and lines. By layering paint over time without specifically describing the subject, the layers of the artwork become visible, sometimes covered and tangled, and reflect the city's irregular sense of time. The canvas, formed through the repeated process of layering, covering, and wiping off paint, is added with the colors of the sensations that portray thoughts about the city, expressing a color palette reminiscent of a city characterized by endless destruction and creation.

Koo studied at the Korea National University of Arts and the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and received her master's degree in studio art from New York University. Starting with her first solo exhibition <Heavy Joke> at Project Space Sarubia Teahouse in 2016, she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions including Arario Museum in Space, 63 Art Museum, Arario Gallery, etc., and won the Gold Prize at the 3rd ETRO Art Awards in 2014.
