《곡선의 미학 The Aesthetics of Curves》 展에서는 자신만의 독자적인 화풍을 구축해 온 김민석, 이가진, 하태임 세 작가의 작업을 통해 곡선이 지닌 조형적 가능성과 그 이면에 숨겨진 미학적 가치를 탐색합니다.
김민석은 디지털 툴의 매끄러운 조형 원리를 아날로그적 붓질로 번역하여 ‘실존의 무게’를 담은 입체적 형상을 구축합니다. 픽셀로 이루어진 가상의 볼륨감을 수만 번의 덧칠을 통한 물리적 양감으로 치환하는 작업 과정은 본질이 부재한 시대를 향한 작가의 응답입니다. 화면 속 사물들이 지닌 올록볼록한 곡선은 시각을 넘어 손끝에 잡힐 듯한 촉각적 실재감을 부여합니다.
이가진은 전통 청자의 시각언어를 전복시켜 공간을 점유하는 푸른 흐름을 창조합니다. 담는 기능을 수행하는 도자의 내부를 비우고 대신 표면에 청자 유약 특유의 투명한 부피감을 채워 넣어 가마 안에서 불과 시간이 빚어내는 유려한 곡면을 통해 팽팽한 긴장감과 매끄러운 생명력을 동시에 담아냅니다. 정형화된 틀을 벗어나 평면과 입체를 넘나드는 작업을 통해 도자의 새로운 서정적 경험을 보여줍니다.
하태임의 곡선은 반복되는 행위가 캔버스 위에 남긴 ‘유동하는 호흡’입니다. 신체의 회전 반경을 따라 그어 내려간 색씨들을 겹겹이 쌓으면서 낱낱의 색채가 지닌 고유한 기억을 화면 위로 소환합니다. 수많은 결이 중첩되어 완성된 곡선의 선율은 시각적 리듬을 넘어 언어 너머의 세계와 조우하게 하는 통로가 됩니다. 정교한 질서 속에 피어난 곡선은 정서적 해방감과 명상을 동시에 선사합니다.
《곡선의 미학 The Aesthetics of Curves》 展은 김민석의 압도적인 볼륨, 이가진의 청아한 물질성, 하태임의 경쾌한 리듬이 ‘곡선’이라는 공통의 교차점에서 만나 서로의 예술적 세계관을 확장합니다. 화면을 부드럽게 가로지르는 선들의 흐름을 따라 그 속에 축적된 인내의 시간과 예술이 선사하는 유연한 위로를 마주하시길 바랍니다.
The exhibition 《The Aesthetics of Curves》 explores the formal possibilities of curves and the aesthetic values embedded within them through the works of three artists—Kim Minseok, Lee Ka Jin, and Ha Taeim—each of whom has developed a distinctive artistic language.
Kim Minseok translates the sleek formal principles of digital tools into analog brushwork, constructing sculptural forms imbued with the “weight of existence.” By converting pixel-based virtual volume into physical mass through tens of thousands of layers of paint, his process becomes a response to an era marked by the absence of essence. The convex and concave curves of objects in his paintings extend beyond vision, offering a tactile sense of reality that feels almost within reach.
Lee Ka Jin subverts the visual language of traditional celadon to create a blue flow that occupies space. She empties the interior function of ceramic vessels and instead fills their surfaces with the translucent volume characteristic of celadon glaze. Through the graceful curved surfaces shaped by fire and time inside the kiln, her works simultaneously convey taut tension and smooth vitality. Moving freely between two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms, she presents a new lyrical experience of ceramics beyond conventional frameworks.
Ha Taeim’s curves are “flowing breaths” left behind by repetitive gestures on the canvas. As she layers strokes of color drawn along the rotational range of her body, each hue summons its own unique memory onto the surface. The melodic curves formed through countless overlapping strands transcend visual rhythm, becoming a passageway to a realm beyond language. Within meticulous order, these curves offer both emotional liberation and meditative calm.
In 《The Aesthetics of Curves》, Kim Minseok’s overwhelming volume, Lee Ka Jin’s lucid materiality, and Ha Taeim’s buoyant rhythm converge at the shared intersection of the curve, expanding one another’s artistic worlds. Following the gentle flow of lines across the surface, viewers are invited to encounter the accumulated time of patience and the flexible solace that art so quietly offers.
