허보리는 비유적 표현을 작품의 뿌리로 작가가 처한 상황과 감정을 바탕으로 드로잉, 회화, 자수와 바느질, 설치 작업 등 다양한 표현 방법으로 스토리텔링 하여 남다른 감수성의 세계를 펼치고 있는 작가입니다. 최근 인간의 인생을 꽃으로 표현한 <풀, 불, 물> 시리즈를 통해 꽃 그 자체가 하나의 알레고리 allegory로서 현대인의 바쁘고 복잡한 삶 속에서 고군분투하는 개인의 모습과 생명력을 자연에 빗대어 담아내고 있습니다. ‘식물 초상을 그리는 일은 내게 마치 한 인물의 인생을 그리는 것처럼 느껴졌다.’고 말하는 허보리는 작품 속의 자연의 모습을 통해 아름다운 꽃을 피우는 때는 다 다르고 찰나와 같지만 누구에게나 도래하는 ‘우리 모두의’ 그리고 ‘그들 각자의’ 전성시대를 담아냅니다. 흙 속에서 영양분을 비축한 씨앗이 싹을 틔우고 자연의 인고를 버텨 꽃을 피우듯 바람에 흔들리거나 물처럼 흐르는 듯 표현된 꽃의 모습을 통해 우리의 인생을 사유하고 있습니다.
Bo-Ri Heo bases her practice on metaphorical expression, using drawing, painting, embroidery, sewing, and installation to tell stories rooted in her own experiences and emotions, creating a uniquely sensitive world. In her recent <Grass, Fire, Water> series, she represents human life through flowers, using each bloom as an allegory for the struggles and vitality of individuals navigating the busy and complex rhythms of contemporary life.
Heo has said, “Drawing plant portraits felt to me like capturing the life of a person.” Through her depictions of nature, she conveys that the time for a flower to bloom—like the peak moments of our lives—is fleeting and unique, yet inevitable for everyone. Just as a seed stores nutrients in the soil, endures the hardships of nature, and eventually blooms, her flowers—shown swaying in the wind or flowing like water—invite reflection on the course of human life.
