권기동의 도시풍경은 격렬하게 움직이는 터치, 몽환적인 색채, 강렬한 빛, 흔들리며 소멸하는 듯한 형태와 윤곽선으로 재현되어 사실적이면서도 생경한 느낌을 자아낸다. 권기동은 다양한 장소를 사진으로 수집한 후 이를 편집하고 재구성하여 또 다른 풍경을 만들어 낸다. 특정 풍경의 구체적 재현이지만, 유심히 들여다보면 연출된 낯선 풍경으로 이상함을 느끼게 되는 것이다. 익숙한 풍경에 작가의 낯선-비판적 시선이 더해져 더 이상 평범하지 않은 풍경으로 비침으로서 대상과 관찰자의 관계를 재설정하고 보통의 풍경을 새롭게 바라볼 수 있도록 한다.

Kwon Ki-dong’s urban landscapes are rendered through vigorous brushstrokes, dreamlike colors, intense light, and forms and contours that seem to waver and dissolve, creating scenes that are both realistic and strangely unfamiliar. Kwon collects photographs of various places, then edits and reconstructs them to create entirely new landscapes. Although the works appear to depict specific, recognizable locations, a closer look reveals a staged, uncanny atmosphere that evokes a sense of strangeness. By combining familiar scenes with his own unfamiliar—and at times critical—perspective, the artist transforms ordinary landscapes into something extraordinary, redefining the relationship between subject and observer and inviting viewers to see the everyday world anew.
