2006년경부터 시작된 박상희의 색 면 작업은 일상의 공간 속에서 찾아낸 비현실적 장면의 포착에서 비롯되었다. 공간을 바라볼 때 느끼는 익숙하면서도 낯선 감정을 색면분할로 간결하게 묘사하기 시작하여 점차 공간을 압축하여 색과 면으로만 표현하고, 작은 상징 구조물을 통해 공간의 상징성을 극대화했다. 주로 산 배경과 함께 박상희의 작품 속에 자주 등장하는 수영장은 도시와 현대화의 산물이자 자연에 대한 인간의 동경이 깃든 '인간이 자연을 흉내 내서 만들어 낸 욕망'의 장소이다. 색면회화 초기 수영장 시리즈에서 볼 수 있었던 원색의 강렬함은 점차 톤 다운되어 파스텔 색조의 따뜻한 색 면으로 대체되었으며, 작가의 감각적인 색 면의 활용은 공간을 실제가 아닌 공허하고 몽환적인 미지의 공간으로 탈바꿈시켰다.

아크릴로 광택 없이 표현한 공간과 다르게 유화로 표현한 작품 속 인물들은 안료의 물성 대비를 통해 더욱 생동감을 지니고 있다. <점프>, <다이빙> 작품의 인물들은 색 면의 알 수 없는 공간으로 힘차게 도약하고 있는 모습으로, 반복되는 일상에서 더 나은 미래를 위해 자신의 한계를 벗어나 힘차게 뛰어오르는 현대인의 모습, '나'의 내면을 들여다볼 수 있다. <There>, <Somewhere> 작품 속의 인물은 해변 등의 공간에서 휴식을 취하는 것처럼 보이지만, 고독, 불안함, 기대감 등 복합적인 감정이 돌아선 인물의 모습에 담겨있다.

박상희는 일상의 단조로운 반복에 지치지만, 미래에 대한 불확실한 기대와 두려움이 공존하는 우리의 모습을 관찰자의 시선으로 작품에 담아낸다. 화면에 보이는 배경은 강렬한 색 면을 사용하여 장소의 상징성을 극대화하면서도 전통적인 정의를 해체한다. 화면을 가로지르는 사선과 수직선을 안정성을 무너뜨리고 불안한 느낌을 강조하며 이러한 선들은 그 자체로 강한 존재감을 드러내고 있다. 작가는 단순한 형태의 색 면과 힘 있는 색채로 표현한 화면구성 속 등장인물을 통해 작가 자신의 감정을 표현하고, 어떤 형태의 정서적 환기를 관람자에게 전달한다.

박상희는 고독한 현대인들의 모습을 작가만의 스타일로 해석하여 독창적이고 면밀한 색 면으로 구성한 화면과 함께 표현하여 메시지를 던진다. 배경을 단순화한 과감한 면 분할, 비대칭 사선과 장소의 상징성을 최소화한 공간구성을 바탕으로 역동적이지만 정적인 이질감이 보이는 독창적인 인물표현을 통해 현대인이 가지는 미래에 대한 불안감, 기대감 등의 복합적인 감정의 경험을 담아내고 심리적인 공간감을 표현한다. 작가는 2005년 첫 개인전 <The Other>(대안공간 풀)를 시작으로 열세 번의 개인전과 수십 여건이 넘는 전시에 참여했으며 난지 미술 창작스튜디오와 유중아트센터의 레지던시 1기 입주작가이자 다양한 미술 대전에서 입상한 경력이 있다. 박상희의 작품은 국립현대미술관 미술은행, 서울시립미술관, 성남아트센터, GS, 을지병원, 숙명여자대학교, 파라다이스 시티 등 여러 곳에 소장돼 있다.

Since around 2006, Park Sanghee’s color-field works have originated from the act of capturing surreal scenes discovered within everyday spaces. She began by depicting the familiar yet strange emotions felt when viewing a space through concise divisions of color planes, and gradually compressed spatial elements into compositions expressed solely through color and surface. Through small symbolic structures, she further heightened the symbolic resonance of space.

The swimming pool, which frequently appears in Park’s works along with mountain backdrops, is both a product of urban modernization and a site of human longing for nature — a place of “desire created by humankind in imitation of nature.”
In her early Swimming Pool Series, the bold use of primary colors has gradually softened into warmer pastel tones. The artist’s sensitive handling of color fields transforms physical space into one that feels hollow, dreamlike, and otherworldly.

Unlike the matte surfaces of her acrylic-rendered spaces, the figures depicted in oil possess a vivid vitality due to the material contrast between the pigments.
In works such as Jump and Diving, the figures are seen leaping powerfully into an ambiguous, color-field space — embodying the modern individual striving to transcend personal limits in pursuit of a better future, reflecting the inner self of “me.”
In There and Somewhere, the figures appear to be resting in places such as beaches, yet their turned-away postures reveal complex emotions — solitude, anxiety, and anticipation.

Park observes and captures the image of contemporary people — weary from the monotonous repetitions of daily life, yet coexisting with both uncertain hopes and fears for the future — from the perspective of an observer.
The backgrounds in her paintings, rendered with striking color planes, amplify the symbolic power of place while dismantling conventional definitions of space. Diagonal and vertical lines that traverse the canvas destabilize balance, emphasizing unease and asserting their own strong presence.
Through the simplified forms and powerful colors of her compositions, Park expresses her own emotions and evokes a particular emotional resonance in the viewer.

Park Sanghee interprets the solitude of modern individuals through her distinctive style, delivering messages via compositions structured with original and meticulously balanced color fields.
With bold divisions of space, simplified backgrounds, asymmetrical diagonals, and minimized spatial symbolism, she achieves a dynamic yet static tension — expressing the psychological spatiality and complex emotions of anxiety and anticipation that define modern existence.

Since her first solo exhibition The Other at Alternative Space Pool in 2005, Park has held thirteen solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows. She was a resident artist at the Nanji Art Studio and Yujung Art Center, and has received several awards in major art competitions.
Her works are included in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Art Bank), Seoul Museum of Art, Seongnam Art Center, GS, Eulji Hospital, Sookmyung Women’s University, and Paradise City, among others.
