미술(美術, Art)은 공간 및 시각의 미를 표현하는 예술의 영역으로 그림, 조각, 건축, 공예, 서예 등 다양한 분야를 포함하며, 공간 예술, 조형 예술 등으로 불리기도 합니다. 미美 그 자체의 학문을 제창한 플라톤을 시작으로 단순히 ‘아름다운 기술’이 아닌 가치와 현상, 체험으로서의 미美에 대해 탐구가 시작되고 과학과 기술이 발전하면서 미술이라고 불리는 창조적인 활동은 단순히 회화와 조각, 도자, 건축을 넘어서 설치, 영상, 사진을 비롯해 다양한 장르가 결합하기도 하는 등 재료와 매체의 성격에 따라 세분화되었습니다.  또한 작가들은 여러 매체를 베이스로 자신만의 차별화된 스타일을 발견하고 개진하여 독특한 작업 세계를 구축해왔으며 이런 작업은 보는 이에게 신선한 경험을 제공하고 패러다임의 변화를 가져오기도 합니다.

페이토 갤러리는 2022년 화창한 봄, 자신만의 독특한 작업 스타일로 작품세계를 구축한 세 명의 작가의 작품을 모은 ‘Rhythmical Breeze (상쾌한 바람)’을 통해 현대 미술 속 다채로운 향기를 경험할 수 있는 전시를 기획하였습니다.

이번 전시에서 소개하는 세 명의 작가는 각기 다른 개성을 가지고 고유한 작업 스타일로 지속적인 작품 활동을 통해 미술계에서 경쾌한 바람을 일으키고 있는 작가입니다.  흑연이 선사하는 모노크롬의 선율 - 무수히 많은 연필 선들로 에너지와 생명력을 캔버스에 담아내는 김은주의 드로잉, 사물을 의인화한 해학의 코드를 기반으로 설치부터 회화까지 다양한 매체를 활용하여 작품의 스펙트럼이 넓은 허보리, 일상에서 마주한 순간 - 사람, 사물, 동물을 스테인리스, 유리, 알루미늄 등의 재료를 사용하여 드로잉 조각이라는 새로운 작업을 하는 황혜선, 이 세 명의 작가는 다루는 매체는 다르지만 자기만의 색을 보여주는 작업을 지속해서 선보임으로써 저마다의 방식으로 미술계에 늘 신선하고 새로운, 기분 좋은 바람을 불러일으키고 있습니다.

인류 역사에 있어 큰 흐름을 바꾼 사건을 강력한 태풍이나 토네이도에 빗대어 표현하기도 합니다. 거대하고 강한 바람은 물성의 변화를 초래하는 강력한 위력 – 변화의 힘을 가지고 있는 것은 틀림없는 사실입니다. 하지만 거대한 바람만이 변화의 물결을 불러일으키는 것은 아닙니다. 새로운 생명의 시작을 알리는 봄의 바람은 따뜻하고 화창한 기운을 품고 있습니다. 잔잔한 봄바람, 미풍은 존재와 어우러져 물성을 강조하기도 하고, 개성과 형태를 돋보이게 하는 힘을 가지고 있습니다.

국내외 미술계에서 활발히 활동하는 3명의 작가 김은주, 허보리, 황혜선 작가 선사하는 경쾌한 바람과 함께 얼굴 가득 웃음꽃 띄운 봄날이 되길 바랍니다.

Art (美術, Art) is an area of art that expresses the beauty of space and vision. It includes various fields such as painting, sculpture, architecture, crafts, and calligraphy, and is also referred to as spatial art or formative art. Beginning with Plato, who advocated the study of beauty (美) itself, the exploration of beauty (美) has developed not simply as “a beautiful skill,” but as an inquiry into value, phenomenon, and experience. As science and technology have advanced, the creative activities referred to as “art” have expanded beyond painting, sculpture, ceramics, and architecture to include installation, video, and photography, as well as combinations of various genres. According to the nature of materials and media, art has become more detailed and diversified.

In addition, artists have discovered and developed their own distinctive styles based on various media, establishing unique artistic worlds. These works offer fresh experiences to viewers and sometimes bring about paradigm shifts.

Peyto Gallery, in the bright spring of 2022, organized the exhibition “Rhythmical Breeze” to allow viewers to experience the diverse fragrance of contemporary art through the works of three artists who have each built their own unique artistic worlds.

The three artists introduced in this exhibition each have different personalities and unique working styles, and through their ongoing artistic activities, they are bringing a refreshing breeze to the art world.
Kim Eun-ju’s drawings capture energy and vitality on canvas through countless pencil lines, presenting the monochrome melody that graphite offers.
Heo Bori, based on the humorous code of personifying objects, uses various media ranging from installation to painting, demonstrating a wide spectrum of artistic expression.
Hwang Hye-seon, who encounters moments from everyday life—people, objects, and animals—creates new works called “drawing sculptures” using materials such as stainless steel, glass, and aluminum.

Although these three artists handle different media, they continuously present works that show their own colors. Each, in their own way, brings a refreshing, new, and pleasant breeze to the art world.

In human history, events that changed the great flow of time have often been compared to strong winds such as typhoons or tornados. It is certainly true that great and powerful winds possess the strength to bring about material transformation—the power of change. However, it is not only enormous winds that stir the waves of change. The spring breeze that heralds the beginning of new life carries warmth and bright energy. The gentle spring wind, the soft breeze, harmonizes with existence, emphasizing materiality and possessing the power to highlight individuality and form.

We hope that together with the cheerful breeze brought by the three artists—Kim Eun-ju, Heo Bori, and Hwang Hye-seon—this spring day will be filled with smiles in full bloom.
