인간은 탐구와 탐험의 본능을 품고 태어나 언제나 새로운 지식과 경험을 갈망한다. 우주를 예로 들자면 고대 인류는 하늘을 올려다보며 끊임없는 이야기를 만들어 냈다. 고요히 떠오르는 태양과 달, 수많은 별은 호기심과 상상력을 자극했고, 탐험의 열망을 안겨주었다. 산업혁명을 거쳐 과학기술의 비약적인 발전과 함께 현대의 우주탐사와 관련된 혁신적인 기술이 등장했고 20세기에는 유인 우주 진출 계획이 성공했다.  우주 탐험과 관련된 기술은 비약적인 발전은 현재진행형으로 진행되고 있다. 우주탐험은 새로운 지식의 경지를 찾는 동시에, 우리 인류의 한계와 미지의 풍경을 발견하고자 하는 끝없는 열망을 반영한다. 이는 인간의 언제나 탐구하고 발전하려는 본성의 일부이자, 지속되어야 할 중요한 노력의 한 예라고 할 수 있다. 그러나 모든 도전의 과정과 결과는 항상 성공일 수는 없다. 실패라는 데이터가 쌓여 성공할 때까지 우리는 다양한 감정을 경험한다. 미래에 대한 기대와 불안감이 함께하는 복합적인 감정을 안고 도전하고 있다.

《SOMEWHERE 어딘가에》 展은 익숙한 공간과 풍경을 작가의 관조적인 시선과 독창적이고 면밀한 색 면으로 화면을 구성하고 그 속에 고독한 현대인의 모습을 자신만의 시각언어로 표현한 작품을 통해 메시지를 던지는 박상희 작가의 작업을 소개한다.

작가의 관조적인 시선과 독창적인 표현으로 풀어낸 화면 - 장소의 상징성을 최소화한 공간 구성, 화면을 가르는 과감한 면의 분할, 감각적인 색채로 채워진 공간과 대비되는 인물 - 은 현실과 비현실의 경계를 아슬아슬하게 드러내고, 긴장을 유발함과 동시에 다양한 상상을 불러일으킨다. 작품에 주로 등장하는 수영장은 도시와 현대화의 산물이자 자연에 대한 동경으로 만들어진 인공의 자연물이라고 할 수 있다. 특히 색 면으로 도약하거나 다이빙하는 작품 속 인물의 역동적인 몸짓은 정적인 이질감을 보인다. 자신의 한계를 벗어나기 위해 힘차게 뛰어오르는 우리 모두의 삶과 연결할 수 있다. 알 수 없는 광활한 자연, 혹은 미지의 이상향을 향해 도전하는 현대인의 미래에 대한 불안, 기대감 등의 복합적인 감정의 경험이 표정을 드러내지 않고 돌아선 인물의 모습에 담겨있는 것이다.

어딘가의 낯선 곳을 통해 우리 일상에서 느끼는 심리적 생소함과 정서적인 무게를 캔버스에 담은 박상희의 작업은 현대 사회 속에서 불완전하게 살아가는 우리의 모습을 돌아보는 새로운 경험과 발견을 제공한다.

Human beings are born with an innate instinct to explore and discover, forever yearning for new knowledge and experience.
Looking to the cosmos as an example, ancient civilizations gazed at the sky and wove endless stories from what they saw. The quiet rising of the sun and moon, and the countless stars scattered across the night, stirred curiosity and imagination, instilling in humankind a desire for exploration.

Following the Industrial Revolution, the rapid advancement of science and technology gave rise to revolutionary achievements in space exploration. In the 20th century, humankind succeeded in sending crewed missions beyond Earth, and the remarkable progress in space technology continues to this day. The pursuit of space exploration embodies our enduring quest for knowledge and our yearning to confront the unknown—to reach beyond human limits and discover unseen realms. It is a reflection of humanity’s unrelenting drive to inquire, evolve, and expand—an effort that must persist. Yet, every challenge and its outcome cannot always end in success. Through the accumulation of failure, we gather data, emotion, and experience—anticipation and anxiety intertwined—as we continue to challenge the future.

The exhibition 《SOMEWHERE》 presents the work of artist Sanghee Park, whose contemplative gaze and meticulous use of color planes construct familiar yet unfamiliar spaces and landscapes. Through these, the artist delivers a poignant message about solitude and the contemporary human condition.

Park’s distinctive compositions—minimizing spatial symbolism, dividing the canvas with bold geometric planes, and juxtaposing vivid color fields with solitary figures—delicately balance the boundary between reality and unreality. The result is a quiet tension that evokes both reflection and imagination. The swimming pool, a recurring motif in her work, is both a product of urbanization and a man-made symbol of humanity’s longing for nature. In particular, the figures that leap or dive across her color fields embody a dynamic gesture set against stillness, mirroring the tension of our own lives as we strive to transcend personal limitations.

The turned-away, expressionless figures capture the complex emotions—uncertainty, anticipation, and yearning—that accompany our pursuit of the unknown, toward vast natural or ideal worlds yet to be discovered.

Through these unfamiliar spaces, Park Sanghee’s Somewhere series offers a moment of introspection—a chance to rediscover ourselves within the psychological estrangement and emotional weight of everyday life in modern society.
