Nosik Park (b. 1996) uses drawings and ceramics to create portraits of himself as seen from the perspective of others. He studied glass ceramic design at Namseoul University and completed a master's degree in ceramics at Hongik University. He is a new artist who was selected at the 1st Youth Art Competition and has been active since 2022 by participating in various group exhibitions.

Nosik Park's work expresses the image of 'me' as seen from the perspective of others. The saying that "first impressions are important" in human relationships comes from the primacy effect, a phenomenon in psychology.
The human brain instinctively tries to consistently receive information it sees and hears. Even if the information initially received is contradictory to the information heard later, the brain tends to ignore the information heard later. Park has continuously pondered and explored 'how I look from the perspective of others' by paying attention to circumstances where one's appearance or characteristics are fixed by others, or where one's image is distorted depending on the viewpoint of different people. By doing this, he shapes his work by discovering the theme and structure, while also crafting a new version of his own character.
The iconography of 'me' in his work projects animals that resemble him and facial expressions pointed out by people around him. The figures that express llama and alpaca, animals that Park has been told to resemble since childhood, and that characterize the scary and cold image of the artist, can be said to be a work of finding the identity of 'me' in the gap between the impression of others and oneself.

TEXTS

“Each and everyone has their own identity. Without being conscious of it, the identity is formed based on their interests, and from there they conceive and create new work. ‘I’ thought that I needed to establish my own identity for my work, and I search for the theme and form of my work by contemplating on things related to ‘me’.
I create ‘me’. The comics I've read since I was a child, and the action figures of the comics are the basis of my work. I take the silhouette from the shape of a clay figure from the past, create a shape that is midway between a toy and the clay figure, and add ‘me’ to that shape.”
